Mr. Pysell began his career in medicine as a student athletic trainer before graduating with honors from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He then became a certified athletic trainer for Davidson College in Davidson, NC in 1991. After working for Harlem Globetrotters International as an athletic trainer from 1994-1995, Mr. Pysell attended physician assistant school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA where he completed a Master of Medical Science and physician assocaite certification in 1997.
From 1997 to 2013, Mr. Pysell practiced emergency medicine at several hospitals in Georgia and Tennessee. From 2004 to 2013, Mr. Pysell served as Director of Advanced Practice Clinicians (physician associates and nurse practitioners) for TEAMHealth, where he was responsible for over 500 physician associates and nurse practitioners in 10 states. In 2010, Mr. Pysell received a Doctorate in Health Administration (DHA) from the University of Phoenix. Subsequently, Mr. Pysell served Vice President of Value Based Services and Director of Physician Associates for one of the largest orthopedic surgery groups in the country located in Charlotte, NC from 2013 – 2017 and then as founding Director of Admissions and principal faculty at the new physician associate program at his alma mater, Presbyterian College, from 2017 – 2021.
Mr. Pysell is a founding member of Tennessee-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (TN-1 DMAT), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services that provides medical care to victims of federally-declared disasters. He has served as a physician associate and, since 2007, as the team’s Deputy Commander, and is a founding member of the United States Department of Homeland Security. He has served in several national and international disasters since 2004.
Mr. Pysell has served on several state and national PA organizations, and has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Associates. Mr. Pysell volunteers with several organizations and local law enforcement. He has been married since 1998, and has three children.
